ReSet Job Success for Brett

Preparing to be released from prison, Reset participant Brett decided to better himself through job training in the hopes to assist with his re-entry into the workforce.

Brett worked with Wirrpanda Foundation mentor, Gavin, and engaged in career planning sessions through the Foundation’s ReSet employment program. Gavin and Brett decided it would be beneficial for him to partake in the Carey Training Binjareb program, a training course designed and run by local Aboriginal mentors to upskill inmates and provide visits from potential employers to create networking opportunities.

Wanting to make the most of this opportunity and not wanting to wait for employers to come to him, Brett made sure to engage with potential employers on their visits, showcase his skills and make positive first impressions. He then successfully completed the course with a Certificate II in Civil Construction and was shortlisted for a position with engineering company, Monadelphous.

Brett continued working hard, completing additional training for his job readiness, with support of the Wirrpanda Foundation and Monadelphous, which landed him a role as a FIFO Trade Assistant.

Fast forward three months, and Brett has now completed his first employment performance review where he was deemed a highly valued employee and is set to be offered further upskilling opportunities to help him progress.

Brett expressed his gratitude for the support of ReSet and Monadelphous and their continued assistance in overcoming barriers to source and remain in employment and owes overcoming employment barriers to the mentoring support he received.

Using an integrated suite of tailored, culturally competent and evidence-based reintegration services ReSet provides support to men and women while in prison and after leaving prison, so that they can have a new beginning that is meaningful and breaks the cycle of offending.
